THE MAN WHO LAUGHS
by Debbie McMahon based on the book by Victor Hugo
STAGED READING OF MY PLAY AT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY LOS ANGELES Sunday May 11 at 2pm.
The young son of a condemned nobleman is sold to child traders who carve a permanent smile on his face. He is mercifully adopted by a vagabond traveling circus man and his pet wolf and grows up to become "the man who laughs," a famous but suffering clown.
THE FRENCH CARNIVOLUTION: revolution * carnival * apocalypse
It is 1794 and a boulevard theatre company invites you to attend an illicit production to share in celebrating the carnivalesque and witnessing the apocalyptic nature of the Revolution thus far.
For over three years, I have intensely researched the Revolution and lead actor laboratories to develop this project using a variety of techniques: original quotes, memoirs and original script, tableaux vivant, clown, dumb show, chorus, soundscape, lecture, dance, light and shadow play, choreography.
